Doctrine & Covenants Lesson # 45
“The Family
Is Ordained of God”
Introduction
At the beginning of this year, we undertook as a Sunday
School class (at least those of us who were in this ward then) to accept
President Nelson’s challenge and read all the scripture references to Christ in
the Topical Guide. Br. Stout kindly pulled them all out for us into a form
where we could either print them or mark them off electronically. The website
is still up, and you can find it here
We also studied The Living Christ, and you can
find those notes in this blog.
However, we did not focus necessarily on the The Family:
A Proclamation to the World, but the Ensign has been running a series of
articles on how to teach the Family Proclamation to children, but it is valid
for all of us. Here is a link to a talk by Julie Beck on the subject
And finally, as far as links are concerned, the talk by Elder
Oaks in the last conference
We’ve talked about the surprisingly negative reaction to
this talk. I heard that a contributor to one of the Salt Lake newspapers went
so far as to say that he/she wished the Proclamation would go away. And yet it
is obvious that we need it now more than ever. This is a family time of year,
and although I have never been able to find it, I believe President Faust once
said that even if you live and are alone, you and God are a family. As we spend
time with whomever we count as family this Christmas time, I pray that we will recognize
the sacred nature of our family, however big or small.
